Card Factory case study

The background

Card Factory, the UK’s leading specialist retailer of greeting cards and gifts, wanted to refresh their store uniform to present a consistent image to customers and increase colleague engagement.

Following a wearer trial, the rollout for their new and bespoke uniform took place in April 2022, creating a consistent approach for all colleagues and stores. Colleagues were extremely happy with the new look.

WHY WHAT YOU WEAR MATTERS

Card Factory were looking for a new uniform that would showcase their brand, using key elements of the colour palette and logo, but that was also comfortable and well fitting for colleagues working in a busy retail environment.

Murray carried out a comprehensive wearer trial as part of our fully managed service, which allowed us to gather feedback and apply any amends to ensure a perfect uniform fit and style for the business. The client was extremely happy that the final uniform matched what was delivered during the wearer trial.

FIT FOR PURPOSE

Murray delivered a service to Card Factory which included the launch of their online ordering portal. This allows stores to place orders and control their costs, whilst acting as a one stop shop for extras such as:

  • Personalised Manager name badges
  • Colleague name badges
  • Custom Card Factory printed lanyards
  • Lanyard holders

Gathering feedback from store colleagues was an essential part of the process for Card Factory. To do so they engaged via their Colleague Forum during all stages of the design and rollout process and sent regular communications to all store colleagues to drive awareness. They also asked for regular feedback using their communications platform.

Results

Murray delivered a uniform with bespoke detailing that offered great quality and fit. For example, we worked with the business to provide a new innovative design for the retail jacket.

We also delivered a t-shirt that allowed stretch, but also was airy enough to ensure colleagues wouldn’t be too hot in the summer.

In discussion with the colleagues in the wearer trial, we also added a dropped hem to both garments to ensure the fit was accommodating when colleagues were stretching / reaching during replenishment tasks.

A sustainable new uniform

Card Factory colleagues were passionate about ensuring that the old uniform wasn’t sent to landfill. We worked with the Card Factory project team to implement a multi-recycling unit scheme during the new uniform roll out, so 100% of the old uniform could be returned, recycled and re-purposed.
